Official Statement from Occupy Central with Love and Peace in response to Hong Kong Police's political prosecution against social activists

Today the police prosecuted 18 social activists who organized the assembly against the North East New Territories Development Project in June.  This is the largest prosecution in terms of number of people involved in association with one single political incident in recent years.  The public cannot help but believe this is a political prosecution intended to intimidate participants of civil disobedience movement.  Such a shameful means only shows the authorities' fear of the upcoming civil disobedience action.

Hong Kong is a society that puts a high value on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.  People in Hong Kong enjoy the freedom of assembly.  The organizers of the campaign to defend North East New Territories managed to maintain peace and order in the Legco sit-in and avoided the use of violence.  However, the government failed to listen to the legitimate requests of the people.  Instead, the police brutally suppressed the peaceful demonstration while the legislature brutally "voted" on the motion with no respect for procedural justice.  When might overcomes right, disobedience becomes our duty!

The era of disobedience has arrived.  Hong Kong citizens are not afraid of intimidation and will not allow their dignity to be trampled upon.  We are peaceful but by no means feeble.  OCLP will be joining force with our allies in fighting for genuine universal suffrage and democratic rights.  If our allies are suppressed, we will stand up for them.  This is the time when the civil society must be united in upholding justice.

The education sector is launching the largest strike ever in Hong Kong history.  OCLP is also ready for the occupation that follows, no matter what happens.  We call for those in Hong Kong who value their dignity and freedom to step forward.  We won't resign to fate and yield to a liar government.  Please support the student strikes and social activists.  Let us fight till the end.  An era that belongs to the citizens will be achieved by a peaceful disobedience movement.
